Waves Group Announces Involvement in Taiwan’s Largest Offshore Wind Farm
Waves Group is pleased to announce our participation in the construction of Hai Long, Taiwan’s largest offshore wind farm. Construction commenced in May with the installation of two Offshore Substation platforms (OSS).
We are providing Marine Warranty Surveyor (MWS) services for the installation of foundations, wind turbine generators (WTGs), OSS, array, and export cables. The Hai Long project boasts a total installed capacity of over 1GW and is anticipated to connect to the grid and start generating power between 2025 and 2026. Once operational, it will be Taiwan’s largest single offshore wind development, significantly contributing to the nation’s goal of achieving 15 GW of offshore wind capacity from 2026 to 2035 as part of its renewable energy strategy.
Owned and developed by Hai Long Offshore Wind, a consortium of Northland Power, Yushan Energy, Mitsui & Co., Ltd., and Gentari, the project consists of two offshore wind farms – the 532 MW Hai Long 2 and the 512 MW Hai Long 3. Developed in three phases, Hai Long 2 is further divided into two smaller farms – the 300 MW Hai Long 2a and the 232 MW Hai Long 2b.
The project will feature 73 Siemens Gamesa SG 14-222 DD wind turbines, mounted on three-legged jacket foundations. These installations will be located approximately 45-70 kilometers off the Changhua coast in the Taiwan Strait, at water depths ranging from 41 to 56 meters.
