The spin-off to create Oceancaster is the direct result of the success of Waves Group’s Maritime Digital team over the last 5 years, providing high-quality maritime data and visualisation services to support its traditional consultancy expertise and advice and helping to give our clients increased certainty in the outcome of their projects and operations.

Recognising the development of digital data access for shipping operations, Waves Group pro-actively invested in this capability with a team of specialist mariners with strong digital data and evidence expertise and software development skills.  This resulted in the development of specialist tools, owned by Waves Group, that can provide detailed analysis of data and maritime incidents more efficiently than traditional methods.  Since investing in these unique and innovative tools, we have led the way in the use of digital data in the analysis and visualisation of maritime incidents, including our CASPAR rapid casualty assessment reports, berth use analyses, AIS data analysis and incident reconstructions.

Spinning-off this team as a new company, will enable Oceancaster to focus on developing innovative and efficient digital solutions for the industry’s evolving needs. Waves Group will be a key partner to the new company, continuing to provide the same high-quality advice to our clients, combined with data and visualisations. We will work closely together with Oceancaster to develop new digital tools and techniques and apply them to solve problems for our clients, who will benefit from the combined strength of both companies.

Waves Group CEO, Simon Burnay said “The creation of Oceancaster is an exciting and important milestone for Waves Group and the Oceancaster team. We are looking forward to seeing the benefits of the acceleration and focus on maritime digital tools that this will create, and to our continued close working relationship with Giles and the team.  The need for the creation of Oceancaster is testament to the success of Waves Group’s investment in the unique combination of operational experience, digital data and advanced software tools to give our clients more certainty.  I would like to thank Giles, the maritime digital team and everyone involved in its growth for their efforts.  This is an exciting step, and we wish Oceancaster the best of success.”

Oceancaster CEO and master mariner Giles Hunnisett said “So much of the critical evidence we see today following maritime incidents is digital, but it can be very challenging for stakeholders to access and combine this evidence to get useful insight into a matter. We’re using new technologies with well tested methodology to improve this situation. We’re really grateful to everyone at Waves Group who has supported us to chase these new goals.”

Waves Group is proud to have been instrumental in the development of advanced tools and techniques for the use and application of maritime digital data and we will continue to develop and innovate in this sector. We look forward to supporting Oceancaster and taking these developments and tools to the next level.
